Three Years Of Narendra Modi Government

3 Years Of Modi Government LIVE: Here's What The Prime Minister, Others Did And Said Today

The Narendra Modi government completed 3 years today. Marking the third anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a number of infrastructure projects in Assam today, one of them being India's longest bridge - The Bhupen Hazarika Bridge. In 2014, Narendra Modi led the Bharatiya Janata Party or BJP to a massive victory in the general elections - known as the Lok Sabha elections, following which he was sworn-in as Prime Minister on May 26 that year.

The government's messaging this year witnessed a scaling up following a huge victory in the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and the popular support for demonetisation.

After the spectacular victory in the assembly elections, the Prime Minister had said he saw it a "foundation for a New India". He had since repeatedly underscored the New India promise -- on his app and the monthly radio address to the nation, Mann ki Baat.

The inflow in Foreign Direct Investment or FDI has nearly doubled -- from $34,487 billion in 2013 it has gone up to 61,724 billion dollars in 2017.

Even the competitiveness of the nation has gone up, the government said, citing the World Economic Forum's Global Competitive Index, where India has gone up from the 60th position to the 39th.

There has been a huge expansion in optical fibre broadband network too. The network, which covered 358 km in 2013-14, has expanded to cover 2.05.404 km. The number of digital transactions, the government said, went up from 254.5 crore in 2013-14 to 865.9 crore in 2016-17.

The area under sanitation coverage has gone up from 42 per cent in 2014 to 64 per cent in 2017. The number of toilets built -- a special initiative that the Prime Minister had announced from the ramparts of the Red Fort on August 15, 2014 -- has gone up from 48.76 lakh to 2.09 crore.

The Prime Minister today put out the statistics on his NarendraModi App to show comparisons between 2014 and now. The sectors covered included agriculture, mobile banking, tele-density, women empowerment, 'Make-in-India', tourism, electrification, solar energy and distribution of LED bulbs. The Prime Minister also invited the people to participate in a survey about the government's performance.

"Sath hai, vishwas hai, ho raha vikas hai (There is cooperation, there is confidence and progress is being made)," PM Modi tweeted.

The data cited spoke of giant boost to government's flagship programmes like Make in India, Digital India and Clean India. Under Make in India, electronics manufacturing, the government said, has gone up from 11,198 crores in 2013 to a whopping 1,43,000 crore in 2017.

The Narendra Modi government, which completes three years today, released a detailed progress report of its performance, which also recorded an increasing approval rating from the people. In 2013, only 29 per cent people were happy with the way things were going in the country. In 2016, the figure has gone up to 65 per cent, the government said. Eighty percent people are happy with the government's handling of economy -- an increase of 57 per cent in 2013. The Prime Minister's popularity rating, the government said, stands at 81 per cent.

"Last 3 years have seen concrete steps that have transformed people's lives," PM Modi tweeted.

Launching a frontal attack on the NDA government on its third anniversary, senior Congress leader Kamal Nath said the hallmark of this government in the last three years has been of "bravado, rhetoric and hyperbole".

Mr Nath, who was the former Parliamentary Affairs Minister, claimed that the highlight of the Modi government is "media management, propaganda, platitudes and acronyms" and asked people to bring a change in the politics. He went on to claim that "The future of this country is dark from the economic point of view and from the social point of view".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the people of Assam after laying the foundation stone for an All India Institute of Medical Sciences or AIIMS in Guwahati. Here are the highlights of his speech:

For us, every corner of the country is as important as Delhi.

Three years ago, at this time on this date, at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President welcomed me and my government.

Today I am here to dedicate India's longest bridge to you all. We have named the bridge after Bhupen Hazarika, who sang songs of the Brahmaputra river. He loved and worshiped the river, and so this bridge has been named after him.

We have a dream for the country, these projects were part of that dream.

Inauguration of AIIMS and agriculture research institute in one day in one state is this government's achievement.

Our government has taken a step to uplift those who belong to Other Backward Classes or OBCs. The OBC Commission has been passed.

I thank all of you and everyone across the nation for participating in the Swachh Bharat mission. I thank the media for propagating the message of a clean India.

My upbringing has been that of a common man, a man from the tail-end of the queue, who wanted to do big things for this great nation.

People wondered why I was talking about toilets in my Independence Day speech from Red Fort. Earlier, they heard about big issues. It was weird for them to hear about such basic needs that go a long way in ensuring cleanliness and hygiene.

Such a high degree of participation of all citizens towards a clean India is unprecedented since Independence.

Notes ban was a very difficult decision, naysayers still say they couldn't have imaged such a huge announcement. They did everything they could to create unrest. Any government could have been destroyed because of such a decision. But we put the benefit of the nation before personal benefit.

There was a time, when there was gloom everywhere. People had lost hope. All they heard was about scams and rampant corruption. But now the era of pessimism is gone. People are hopeful of change. The thinking of "gaya dhan" (money lost) has become "aaya dhan" (money earned) and "jan dhan" (people's money).

Earlier, people wondered if there was a government at all. Now there is a new day every day. Every day something positive is happening, something that people can look forward to - be it some new scheme that benefits the masses or a new announcement about India's achievements and progress.

From lethargy and apathy in the past, you now hear of government employees coming on time and working at a brisk pace.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the third anniversary of his government and said that under his leadership, the evolution of India as a brand has witnessed a huge jump overall, thus helping it to break into the top echelons of the global order.

"India has emerged as a power in the world. The  Modi government has formed an image of a reliable and strong government. They had taken the reins of the country with a feeling of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' and today, the government has made better schemes for empowerment of all categories in the country and also successfully implemented it," Mr Chouhan said.

In a short span of three years, PM Modi has successfully acquired a status for India as the world's fastest growing and third largest economy. All economic agencies of the world are surprised at India's development, he said.

"It (initiatives) has been possible for India because of its strong foundations in economy to overcome the financial crises and subsequently the international financial problems including the Euro zone crises. The Indian economy is moving steadfast. The Prime Minister has given a new direction, no doubt. Various initiatives which he has taken clearly indicates the onward movement of India," President Mukherjee said.

President Mukherjee went on to say, "No doubt in the contemporary period, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is one of the most effective communicators and perhaps can be compared with other illustrious prime ministers like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi who communicated on their principle, on their ideas accepting the Parliamentary form of government and particularly to have a secular Constitution".

He said without having the capacity to be a good communicator one cannot expect to lead the millions of people.

I want to say, it did in three years what all governments did not do in 70 years," he said, in an apparent reference to the Congress which has ruled India for the majority of the years since independence.

BJP President Amit Shah speaks to the media on the occasion of 3 years of Modi government in power. Here are the highlights of his speech:

In the last three years, the confidence of the people has increased.

PM Modi has been successful in changing the scale of the country's thought. Even the Politics of the country has changed. Nepotism, casteism and appeasement had been uprooted.

That's why our motto for the celebrations this time is: Saath hai, vishwas hai, ho raha vikaas hai.

PM Modi had said at the outset that this government would be for the poor and downtrodden... the farmers and the Dalits. This government has worked relentlessly to ensure that this has been achieved.

After years of corruption under previous governments, we finally have a government that not even the opposition can accuse of corruption.

For years our armed forces have been asking for One Rank One Pension or OROP, but their requests fell on deaf years. The Modi government has ensured that OROP is implemented.

Earlier Indian scientists used to be satisfied by launching 3 to 4 satellites. Today they set world records by launching 104 satellites. All credit to our scientists for this. The Modi government will always support scientists to the best of our ability.

When it comes to defence and national security, The Modi government has always put this as the topmost priority. India has been presented as a country now with a strong political will.

The enemy property bill was earlier a victim of vote banks and appeasement. The Modi government has done a great service by enacting it.

The GST (Goods and Services Tax) or One Nation One Tax was a dream for traders and entrepreneurs. The Modi government, with the support of all other parties ensured that the crucial bill was passed in Parliament. This is one of the most significant reforms, which makes India one unified market.

1100 laws that were irrelevant have been repealed, simplifying law and order.

India is undergoing a digital transformation, and so is the way in which Indians manage their money. More and more Indians are moving to digital transactions every day. The Modi government launched the BHIM App, which is today the world's most popular digital transaction app. It remembers Babasaheb Ambedkar.

The Modi government has given manufacturing a major boost under the Make in India programme. In the defence sector, inducting the Tejas in the Indian Air Force has bolstered Make in India.

Our government is also working day and night towards ensuring that electricity reaches the remotest corner of the country. At the same time we are pushing for renewable and green energy, as well as green technology. The entire world appreciated India's leadership at the Paris climate conference.

Our government strongly believes that everyone is equal. We have taken steps towards putting an end to VIP culture. Scrapping the red beacons from cars has been a path-breaking step.

2016-17 has been a record year for industry and production. Some of them being: Urea production, Ethenol, Gas connections, Coal production, electricity production, sea trade, railway investment, highest length of roads constructed, rural roads, most cars, most two wheelers, most software export, best ranking in ease of doing business, highest Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and highest forex reserves.

Regulating the price of stents, has brought heart treatment to the reach of the poor.

The Narendra Modi government has laid a foundation for a 'New India'.

We are the fastest growing major economy in the world. Inflation is under control. The Sensex too, crossed a record 31,000 mark today. The IMF has said that India's GDP will grow at 7.2 per cent.

Through his hard work and dedication, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emerged as the most popular leader since Independence.

PM Modi also laid the foundation stone of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute or IARI in Assam. Here are the highlights of his speech to the farmers in Assam:

I have come to lay a foundation stone for a project that will change the fate of rural life in India.

India is a country that benefits from all seasons - Summer, Winter, Autumn, Spring and most importantly the Monsoon.

Time and technology don't wait for anyone, it is ever-changing and moves at a fast pace.

Farmers in India should reap the benefits of the progress being made

You have showed faith in us by letting us form the government in Assam. We assure you that we will fulfil the dream of doubling the income of farmers.

Our government has taken many important steps in the last three years. Though three years is not a lot of time for a big country like India, significant progress has been made.

One of the major initiative has been the soil health card for farmers.

The science of helping farmers was there always there. Scientists did not take birth after we came to power, but tokenism does not help the country develop. Before our government, there were 15 soil health card laboratories. Today there are over 9,000.

We have also fostered startups that will help the farm sector.

Indian farmers are immensely capable and talented. If they get the right guidance and get adequate water, our farmers can do wonders. Keeping that in mind, we have launched whole host of irrigation programmes.

Farmers have appreciated these schemes. They are now getting more money than ever from crop insurance.

Northeast has a great scope for organic farming. And there is a big market for organic farming worldwide.

Where regular produce sells for Re 1, organic produce sells for 1 dollar. Northeast can become a hub of organic farming.

We speak of the green revolution and aspire for another one. Our government is not just aiming for a second green revolution, but an 'evergreen revolution'.

We have a five-point-principle to improve connectivity to the north east - Highway, Railway, Waterway, Airway, and I-Way or information way.

Soon, NE will not just stand for Northeast, but also for New Economy, New Energy, New Empowerment, and New Engine. This new engine will take India forward.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses the people of Assam after launching the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge. Here are the highlights of his speech:

I am happy to say that the bridge that you've been waiting for for the last five decades... you have finally got it today.

If Atal ji's government were re-elected in 2004, you would have got this bridge 10 years ago.

Our lawmaker at that time had requested for the bridge, and Atal ji's government ordered a feasibility study.

If the work had been carried out as expected and was done as per schedule, you would have got this bridge 10 years ago. But then the government changed and there were obstacles. So your dream was delayed.

In the last three years all efforts were made to realise Atal ji's dream and to ensure that your state develops at a fast pace.

Today, when the BJP government in Assam is completing a year, Assam's problems are being solved one by one. This bridge is not just a reason of Assam's pride but that of the entire country.

One thing is certain, if you want to make development permanent, then infrastructure is the first thing that is needed.

Physical infrastructure and social infrastructure should go hand in hand. My government's intent is to make development permanent. We want to fulfil the dreams all our countrymen.

This bridge will bring Assam and Arunachal Pradesh closer. A distance of 165 km has been shortened, hours of transit time saved. The launch of this bridge opens new doors of economic prosperity.

The ginger farmers of Sadiya will get a new market.

This bridge will bring about a new economic revolution.

Everyone in India is looking at this bridge today. Everyone is proud of Assam and proud that such a large project has been undertaken in India.

If there is one region that has the most scope of contributing to India's dream of unprecedented development, it is the east and the northeast. Which is why we have always endeavoured to take development to new heights.

Not just time, this bridge will save Rs 10 lakhs worth of fuel every day. The common man will benefit from it.

We are working towards making this region a hub of economic activity. We are working to give a thrust to waterways. This region can play a huge role in connecting India to South East Asia and we want to make this region a hub of economic activity.

Railways in the northeast hasn't received as much attention as it should have. Due to connectivity problems, people from other parts of the country are unaware of how beautiful this place really is. If we can make this a tourist hub, the economy of this region will benefit immensely.

The iconic Dhola-Sadiya bridge will be named after Bhupen Hazarika - the son of Brahmaputra who enchanted the world with his voice. I dedicate the Bhupen Hazarika bridge to the people of Assam and in-turn the people of India.

I congratulate Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and his team. In one year he has taken on so many difficult problems and is finding solutions. It is remarkable. I believe Assam will soon leave its problems behind. I assure you all that the Centre will walk shoulder to shoulder to realise the dreams of the people of Assam.
