At the Quad meeting in Atlanta, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Foreign Ministers from Japan and Australia, Toshimitsu Motegi and Penny Wong, respectively.

In a post on X after the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Atlanta, S Jaishankar outlined the priorities he raised with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong.

Speaking at the NDTV World Summit 2026, S Jaishankar said restoring peace along the India-China border was essential for normalising bilateral ties.

Jaishankar said countries have several opportunities to come together and help each other, whether the issue is yoga, nutrition, energy or disaster management.

"What you have heard from Secretary Rubio, Secretary Piyush Goyal and others, I am also saying the same thing that we are moving towards this agreement".

S Jaishankar spoke about global turbulence, China and Pakistan at the NDTV World Summit, and revealed he is currently watching The Diplomat on Netflix, sharing the show as part of his current viewing choice.

Jaishankar said India seeks cordial relations with Pakistan but will not tolerate terrorism in pursuit of better bilateral ties.

The External Affairs Minister said the challenges facing governments could not be explained simply by the actions of one country or one government.

Jaishankar revealed that he watches The Diplomat, but pointed out that the American political thriller presents diplomacy in a distinctly American way

"If you don't have the conviction to fight back against terrorism, don't think somebody else is going to do that job for you," the External Affairs Minister said.

External trade talks are progressing, but S Jaishankar says the final stages remain challenging as global tariff uncertainty, sanctions and supply-chain disruptions reshape India's economic strategy.

The 71-year-old Minister, a former diplomat, said he can list out very many examples where leaders have travelled out of Delhi to meet a foreign leader.

"Often the last mile or the penultimate miles do pose their challenges. I think the [negotiating] teams are working through them now," S Jaishankar said in a session at the NDTV World Summit in New Delhi.

The External Affairs Minister pointed out fresh prospects within the bilateral relationship spanning commerce, investment, technology and energy, noting that consistent communication alongside pinpointing shared objectives would establish a clear roadmap.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar hosted Rubio for wide-ranging talks shortly after the top diplomat arrived in Mumbai for his second visit to India in under five months, even as bilateral ties remain strained over Washington's unpredictable trade policies and tightening immigration rules.

During the meeting, the two ministers exchanged views on regional developments. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor and other officials were also present at the meeting.

The visit of the US Secretary of State, who is accompanied by a large business delegation, is likely to focus largely on boosting India-US economic engagement.

In addition to his meeting with S Jaishankar, Rubio's engagements in Mumbai included laying a wreath at the Taj memorial to honour the victims of the 26/11 terror attack.

The meeting between External Affairs Minister Jaishankar and Secretary of State Rubio will allow both sides to discuss ways to bolster the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, Randhir Jaiswal said.

This will be Rubio's second visit to India since May, when he attended the Quad Foreign Ministers' meeting hosted by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in New Delhi
