As Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) plunges to 'Severe', the political battle over pollution control has intensified. The Delhi government briefed that several measures are underway to curb air pollution, including strict enforcement against firecrackers and inspections at construction and dust-prone sites.
However, Delhi environment minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa has sharply criticized the AAP government, blaming it for failing to control pollution in Delhi while also alleging that AAP policies in Punjab are forcing farmers to burn paddy. Sirsa further accused the AAP of enforcing a firecracker ban to appease select groups, while also claiming that Delhi residents flouted the deadline, worsening air quality.
