Bachpan Ka Tyohaar: Celebrating The Joy Of Childhood

New Delhi: Childhood is considered the most precious time in life, a period marked by innocence, happiness, and curiosity. It's a time that helps shape who we are, our values, and creates memories that last a lifetime. The word "Bachpan" refers to the joyful period filled with playing, learning, and exploring, a time to enjoy and remember. Kids must play outdoors and enjoy childhood for their physical and mental well-being. Play also helps to build cognitive thinking, problem-solving abilities, and social skills in children.

This very essence of childhood is captured in "Bachpan Ka Tyohaar," an initiative by EkStep & Key Education Foundation that celebrates childhood. It emphasises the importance of childhood and encourages communities and Anganwadi centers to plan activities for children so they get the chance to celebrate their childhood and freedom to play. By fostering such an atmosphere, Bachpan Ka Tyohaar aims to nurture well-rounded development and inculcate positive values from a young age.

SMT. Rashmi Shami, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, highlights,

“Play is the best way to learn because children learn without realising that they are learning, and it also stays with them longer because you are stimulating different parts of the brain."

The celebration is also closely connected with the role of Anganwadi centers, which serve as the cornerstone for early childhood care and education.

Rajiv Singh, DPO Satna, shares,

“Childhood celebration, especially in the Anganwadi centers, has different connotations for us. We perform certain activities in Anganwadi centers to maximise their foundational skills, and children learn through fun and happiness.”

Swetha Guhan, Co-Founder of Key Education Foundation, explains,

“In Madhya Pradesh, we launched the Bachpan Ka Tyohaar book to support this movement, where the focus is on bringing societies together to recognise who our children are and celebrate them by bringing transformation in Anganwadis.”

Anganwadi workers also highlight the importance of building an engaging and supportive environment for kids through their active involvement.

Fula Devi, an Anganwadi worker, shares,

"Children do activities. They make clay toys while playing and recite stories and poetry."

These hands-on activities build creativity, communication skills, and emotional expression among children.

Moreover, Sandeep G.R., IAS Sagar, highlights the broader spectrum of early childhood development:

“Focusing on nutrition, we have started working on planting moringa saplings, which are a superfood. The anganwadi workers are taking care of it. The other thing we are focusing on is creating a structure for anganwadi workers to allow the children to come and follow a particular timetable. The third most important thing we have focused on is ensuring that the parents are engaged in this learning process as much as the children are."

Bachpan Ka Tyohaar is more than a celebration; it is also a movement to acknowledge the importance of childhood. It reminds us that nurturing joy, play, and learning during this developing period is vital for creating an optimistic future for every child.
