Gaura Devi Tourism Fair: Promoting Climate Awareness Through Festivals

To mark #WorldEnvironmentDay, Dettol Climate Resilient Schools - Dettol Banega Swasth India in partnership with the Uttarakhand government hosted the 28th State-Level Gaura Devi Environment, Nature, and Tourism Festival, to raise consciousness about climate change, health, and hygiene issues.

The festival was inaugurated by the Speaker of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly, Ritu Bhushan Khanduri and was held at the Government Inter College, Urgam Valley of the Chamoli district.

Gaura Devi Tourism Fair is organised every year on June 5, in the Urgam Valley of the Chamoli district, to honor the contributions of Gaura Devi, the mother of the Chipko movement, in environmental conservation.

Dettol has taken the message forward by making exceptional contributions to environmental sustainability and community engagement, for which they were honoured at the festival with 'Gaura Devi Samman'.

People who excelled in the fields of the environment, social service, literature, art, and journalism were honoured with the 'Gaura Devi Samman', which serves as an inspiration to society while also promoting local culture and tourism.

The fair organised traditional folk songs, dances, dramas, food competitions and exhibitions of local handicrafts, which preserves and promotes the regional culture.

The festival attracted nearly 10,000 people, who witnessed a variety of performances by students from around the district, all focused on environmental conservation.

More than 200 students from 20 schools showcased thematic and dance performances to celebrate the festival
