India's Gabba 2021 Team: Where Are They Now?

Rohit Sharma opened the batting in the 2021 Gabba Test, and assumed captaincy of India in all formats soon after. He is currently leading India in the ongoing BGT, amid struggles with the bat.

Shubman Gill played a crucial 91 in the historic run chase in 2021, opening the batting. Nowadays, he is India's permanent choice at No. 3 in Tests.

From being the rock of the Indian batting in 2021, Cheteshwar Pujara has now swapped the cricket field for the commentary box. He is presently part of the broadcasting group for the ongoing BGT.

Ajinkya Rahane captained India to the historic series win in 2020/21, but has fallen out of favour in Tests now. He currently captains Mumbai in first-class and List A cricket, having led them to Ranji Trophy and Irani Cup wins in 2024.

The star of Gabba 2021, Rishabh Pant is now arguably India's most important batter in Test cricket, tasked with many more crucial knocks.

Mayank Agarwal rapidly fell down the ranks, and has not played any international cricket for India since March 2022. He also went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Washington Sundar has re-emerged into India's plans after Gautam Gambhir's arrival as coach, and is currently part of the India squad in Australia. He also played in the victorious 1st Test in Perth.

Shardul Thakur is another player who had the misfortune of going unsold in the recent IPL 2025 mega auction. His last Test for India was the WTC Final 2023.

Navdeep Saini was an unsung star of the 2020/21 BGT series win. Now, he is part of India's travelling reserves to Australia for the ongoing BGT.

Mohammed Siraj is the final member of the 2021 Gabba Test who is still a part of the current India team. He was embroiled in a spat with Travis Head during the 2nd Test at Adelaide, leading to a fine.

T Natarajan played his only Test in Gabba 2021, and has primarily played white-ball cricket since. He picked up 19 wickets in IPL 2024, and was sold for a whopping Rs 10.75 cr to Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025 auction.
