IPL: Rohit Sharma's Magnificent 85* Helps Mumbai Indians Thrash RPS By Eight Wickets

Rohit Sharma blasted an unbeaten 85 as Mumbai Indians notched up their third consecutive win by defeating MS Dhoni's Rising Pune Supergiants by eight wickets to move to second position.

On May 1, which is celebrated as Maharashtra Day, the IPL witnessed the Maharashtra Derby between Rising Pune Supergiants and Mumbai Indians. It was the final match in Maharashtra, following the Bombay High Court verdict order. (Images credit: BCCI)

Mumbai Indians chose to bowl and they struck early with Ajinkya Rahane's wicket. However, Steven Smith continued his magnificent form and he was given good support by Saurabh Tiwary as they stitched a 84-run stand.

Smith, who had smashed a hundred in the previous match against Gujarat Lions, looked set for a big score.

Smith looked good for yet another fifty as Rising Pune Supergiants came close to 100 in just the 10th over.

Mumbai Indians broke the stand and they applied the breaks on Rising Pune Supergiants in the middle overs.

The middle overs proved to be problematic for Rising Pune Supergiants as they failed to get going.

Saurabh Tiwary notched up his fifth fifty as he held one end up.

However, Jasprit Bumrah struck at regular intervals as Rising Pune Supergiants lost momentum towards the end overs.

Following the dismissals of Smith and Tiwary, Rising Pune Supergiants struggled to find the boundary. Even MS Dhoni struggled to get going as they ended up on 159/5 after 20 overs.

Chasing 160, Rohit Sharma and Parthiv Patel got off to a fast start and the Mumbai Indians skipper also strung a good partnership with Ambati Rayudu.

Rohit Sharma's wife, Ritika Sajdeh, was present in the audience as the Mumbai skipper notched up his 29th fifty.

R Ashwin got the wicket of Rayudu but that was the only success for Rising Pune Supergiants.

There was plenty of glamour present at the ground, with Bollywood stars Emraan Hashmi and Nargis Fakhri present.

Rohit and Jos Buttler clinched a magnificent eight-wicket win as Mumbai Indians jumped to second spot in the 2016 IPL with their third consecutive win.
