A content creator spent a day with Mumbai's dabbawalas, getting a firsthand look at the 130-year-old system that delivers nearly 2 lakh lunchboxes across the city every day.

The decision was taken after heavy rains caused widespread waterlogging, transport disruptions, and safety concerns for the thousands of dabbawalas who travel across Mumbai using trains, bicycles and handcarts.

The pause is part of the dabbawalas' annual practice, when many workers return to their native villages to spend time with their families. During this period, no lunch boxes will be collected or delivered across the city.

'The corporate people for whom we carry food can travel by Metro, but not their food. That’s the sad reality of this city,' says Subhash Talekar of the Mumbai Dabbawala Association.
