India Covid-19 Cases: India's COVID-19 active cases declined to 6,10,443.

New Delhi:

As many as 50,407 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported in the country, informed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday.

With this, the country's active caseload currently stands at 6,10,443 which accounts for 1.43 per cent of total cases.

The daily positivity rate in India has been recorded at 3.48 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 5.07 per cent.

A total of 1,36,962 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients since the beginning of the pandemic is now at 4,14,68,120. Consequently, India's recovery rate stands at 97.37 per cent while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 per cent.

In a first during the third wave, Mumbai reported a positivity rate of under 1 per cent today, a markedly significant drop given the consistently high daily cases reported in the city through December and January.

All COVID-19 Restrictions To Be Lifted In Bihar From February 14

All COVID-19 restrictions in Bihar will be lifted from February 14 till further orders, said Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday. The decision was taken on account of declining COVID-19 cases in the state during a review meeting. 

"The current status of COVID-19 infection was reviewed today. In view of the continuous decrease in corona infection, all types of restrictions have been lifted from February 14 till further orders," said a tweet from the Chief Minister.

Mr Kumar said that all activities will resume normally while complying with COVID-19 appropriate behaviour and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). District authorities have been authorised to impose restrictions as per local circumstances.

"Now all activities will operate normally with COVID appropriate behavior and compliance with the prescribed standard operating procedure. The district officials have been authorized to impose restrictions as per the local circumstances," said another tweet from the Chief Minister.

India supplies medical assistance to Iran as part of ongoing humanitarian effort, including Covid vaccine provision
India supplied medical assistance consisting of anti-Tuberculosis medicines, as part of its ongoing humanitarian assistance to Iran on February 12.

According to an MEA statement, last year in the joint fight against the COVID pandemic, India had supplied humanitarian assistance to Iran consisting of one million doses of COVAXIN vaccine.

Furthermore, to ensure food security, India also supplied 40,000 litres of Malathion pesticide to Iran under the Government-to-Government initiative for Locust Control Programme.

Kerala reports 15,184 fresh COVID-19 cases, 427 deaths including backlog
Kerala logged 15,184 new Covid-19 cases and 427 deaths on Saturday, pushing the total case tally in the state to 63,96,247 and the death count to 62,053 respectively, said State Department of Health.

Of the deaths, 23 were reported in the last 24 hours, while the rest were added as backlog, a press release said.

With 38,819 more people recovering since Friday, the total recoveries reached 61,52,076. As the number of recoveries were more than the new cases, the active ones went down to 1,81,347, the release said.

Covid World News: Iceland Prime Minister Tests Positive For Covid
Iceland's Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir has tested positive for Covid-19 after contracting the virus from a family member, she announced on Facebook on Saturday.

"My youngest son tested positive for Covid-19 on February 1. Since then, another member of our household has also contracted the virus, so it was no great surprise when I tested positive last night", she wrote in a post.

The subarctic island nation has registered a record more than 2,000 daily Covid cases on average over the past four days, but hospital admissions have remained stable.

Tamil Nadu Nursery, Play Schools To Reopen Amid Decline In Covid Cases
In a major relaxation, the Tamil Nadu government has permitted nursery and play schools will reopen on February 14 amid a decline in COVID-19 cases. This comes just days after physical classes from 1-12 standards in all schools were allowed to reopen from February 1.

While exhibitions have been allowed in the state, the ban on public gatherings at community, cultural and political events will continue, according to the new guidelines.

The government had ordered schools to close while permitting classes for higher secondary students till Pongal (mid-January). Later, all the higher secondary schools were asked to remain shut till January-end.

Of central prisons in Delhi, no Covid cases in third wave in Mandoli women's jail
While every central jail in Delhi reported Covid cases among inmates during the highly-transmissible Omicron-fuelled third wave, the number 16 women's prison in Mandoli had a different story to tell.

"None of our inmates were infected, and they include small children," a senior official said, attributing the feat to strict protocols and lessons learnt from the second wave last year, which had crippled health systems across the country.

Inmates and doctors at the jail told PTI that besides protocols, authorities made sure there was availability of medicines, and teas or 'kadha' made of authorised herbs and turmeric mixed in milk were served to boost immunity.

Established in 2017, the Central Jail No-16 or more commonly known as the Mandoli women's prison has 174 inmates, among whom 162 are under-trials and 12 convicts.

Mizoram logs 1,822 new COVID-19 cases, 1 fresh fatality in 24 hours
Mizoram's COVID-19 tally increased to 1,95,189 on Saturday as 1,822 more people, including 443 children, tested positive for the infection, an official said.

The coronavirus death count rose to 635 as one more patient succumbed to the infection, the official said. The state had reported 1,641 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths on the previous day.

The northeastern state now has 12,623 active cases, while 1,81,931 people have recovered from the infection so far, the official said.
