Fighting COVID-19: Tata Trust Airlifts Critical Gear For India's Response To The Novel Coronavirus

New Delhi: 

Tata Trusts shared a video on their social media accounts, airlifting the critical supplies for deployment across the country to support the fight against COVID-19. The items being airlifted are worth Rs. 150 crores and include personal protection equipment (PPE) kits containing coveralls, gloves, N95/KN95 masks and surgical masks of different grades, in association with Tata International Ltd, the philanthropic organisation revealed in a statement.

Consignment of about one crore individual units will arrive in multiple batches and will be deployed where these are most needed across the country in the coming weeks. The total value committed so far for sourcing such materials is about Rs 150 crore, it said. 

Tata Trusts further said that the import of the items were with the help of  Tata International Ltd and is in-line with Chairman Ratan Tata's call, who has said in a statement the current situation in India and across the world is of grave concern and needs immediate action.

Urgent emergency resources need to be deployed to cope with the needs of fighting the COVID-19 crisis, which is one of the toughest challenges the human race will face, he said. 

Earlier last month, Tata Trusts and Tata Group firms have together committed Rs 1,500 crore in the fight against the novel coronavirus, of which Tata Trusts had pledged Rs 500 crore, towards their initiative called One Against COVID.  

The primary focus under the ‘One Against COVID' initiative, include the following as per a statement by the trust, 

Personal Protective Equipment for the medical personnel on the frontlines, respiratory systems for treating increasing cases, testing kits to increase per capita testing, setting up modular treatment facilities for infected patients and knowledge management and training of health workers and the general public.

Mr. Tata also thanked the frontline workers for their efforts to fight the pandemic in a statement, 

We are deeply grateful and have immense respect for every person of member organisations who have risked their lives and safety to fight this pandemic.
