Alokparna Sengupta From Humane Society International On Illegal Breeding

Alokparna Sengupta MD, Humane Society International joins the NDTV-India Animal Fund #FreedomForAll Telethon and talked about illegal breeding of dogs in India and how it is impacting the society. At the telethon, she said, "A lot of us don't realise that breeds like Labradors, German Shepherds and Dobermans have come with the British and they were not native to India. Around 100 per cent breeders are illegal in India because they are not following the law. Mother dog or father dog are confined in small places and bred continuously cycle after cycle, giving birth to as many puppies as possible. They are sold as young as 28 days. When they are sold to consumers, they have severe health issues and several of them die."
