Joining the NDTV-India Animal Fund Freedom For All Telethon, Actor Madhuri Dixit shared a message with the viewers and said, “In India, 80 million dogs and cats are struggling to survive on the streets and countless others end up in animal shelters. This is why I chose to adopt Carmelo who was abandoned by his previous guardian before PETA India rescued him. You can also adopt a dog or a cat in need, from your local animal shelter or from the streets, instead of buying one from a pet store. Buying animals, who are often later abandoned, only adds to the crisis of dogs and cats suffering on India's roads, and waiting in shelters. Giving a rescued animal a permanent home will change your life in wonderful ways. Believe me, it has definitely changed mine.”
