Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar At NDTV Indian Of The Year Awards: "CAA Is A Reprieve For The Persecuted"

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar delivered a keynote address at NDTV Indian Of The Year Awards. "Our economy entered the Big 5, leaving behind the UK, Canada, and France. We will be in the top three, above Germany and Japan," he said in his speech. "The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is a reprieve for the persecuted. India has been a place for the persecuted for centuries. Media has to play its role. Media cannot be a registered, recognised, or unrecognised political party. Some people in the media leveraged decision-making. Media should not be a power broker. It has to be accountable," he added.

About The Awards

Since 2003, when NDTV launched the first ever Indian of the Year, the event has become synonymous with recognizing those Indians – individuals, organizations and institutions – who have contributed to the idea and identity of India in one way or the other, whose contributions to the country have strengthened the foundation of our society.

The awards have recognized the unsung hero in the same breath as the most celebrated – our focus has always been on the extraordinary work. It is to honor extraordinary work that we gather once again to celebrate the Indian of the Year - 2024.
