Justice For Every Child: A Look At The Success Of The Campaign

Justice for Every Child is a campaign by Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation and NDTV to support child victims of sexual abuse and rape who are fighting for justice in court. The Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation (KSCF), was founded by Nobel Peace Laureate Mr. Kailash Satyarthi.

Justice For Every Child: A Look At The Success Of The Campaign

Justice For Every Child campaign's Rescue and Rehabilitation for Child labour and trafficking efforts resulted in the rescue of 3,724 children, registration of 312 FIRs. The campaign also ensured 475 arrests and helped secure a compensation of Rs 27 crore and 49 lakhs for the children. Furthermore, out of the 939 calls received by the Child Helpline, 880 calls were resolved.

When it comes to the POCSO cases, the campaign intervened in 5,255 cases in 76 districts and 11 states, 90 support persons were also appointed to help with these. Compensation of Rs 1 crore 44 lakhs was awarded to 76 victims and 126 accused were denied bail through intervention in courts and 29 convictions were ensured. The campaign also helped provide mental health services to children in 319 cases and linked 192 families with government welfare schemes.

The Impact of Bal Mitra Grams (BMGs): The campaign helped set up 654 BMGs which ensured the safety of 1,51,486 children. Furthermore, it helped rescue 1,018 child labourers, stop 64 child marriages, rescue 61 children from trafficking. It also enabled 5,556 children enrol in schools and provide 200 bicycles to support girls' education. The campaign helped form 605 Bal Panchayats with 6,655 child leaders, 135 Village Child Protection Committees, 388 School Management Committees, 5 Kailash Satyarthi Libraries with 107 libraries under construction.

The impact of Bal Mitra Mandals (BMMs): Through the 8 BMM established across Delhi, 23,214 children were protected, 688 were enrolled in school, 115 girls were given self-defence training and 4,086 families were linked with government welfare schemes. Also, there were no cases of child labour, trafficking or sexual abuse reported and 1 child marriage was prevented. Moreover, 227 mobile phones were distributed benefiting 681 children. BMM also organised 15 street plays on social issues, 16 children participated in radio programmes and Rs 90,000 were raised by women members through small-scale entrepreneurship.

Intensive area action by KSCF across 100 districts resulted in the identification of 2,431 traffickers, registration of 1,301 FIRs and arrest of 1,364 traffickers. The organisation also helped link 19,489 families with government welfare schemes, created 207 child-friendly police stations and 224 child-friendly courts. 164 Anti Human Trafficking Units and 20 survivor led intelligence networks were operationalised by the efforts of the organisation. It also helped make 1,082 village migration registers.

As pert of KSCF'S tech support to states, MoU was signed with Kerala Cyber Dome, Hardware, software and training to deal with online Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) was provided and the organisation's funds helped Kerala cyber police develop Grapnel - a specialised tool to deal with online CSAM. On the other hand, Letter of engagement was also signed with Maharashtra Police and training for provided for the police personnel using the material developed by KSCF, on the use of software to deal with cybercrime and Tactical Response Against Child Cyber Exploitation (TRACE) Unit was set up. This resulted in 6 content takedown requests and arrests of the perpetrators.

Training and capacity building efforts by the organisation helped organise 169 training programmes that sensitised 16,869 people in 16 states. The key personnel trained include 6,887 police personnel, 2,007 other law enforcement agents, 219 judicial officers, 3,208 children, 2,930 anganwadis, 969 college students and 332 teachers.
