Actor Taapsee Pannu has been sponsoring education of girl children and lending her support to the #Justice4EveryChild telethon. At the 5-hour-special show, Ms Pannu said that the focus of her initiative has been to go beyond textbook education to teach the girls about right touch, wrong touch and generally raising awareness about what amounts to abuse. She told NDTV how the initiative began,
I decided to take up girls around the age of 4-5 as they should have a choice that they can study. I was sponsoring their education. There's not enough awareness and to impart them education beyond textbooks so that they can grow and have a future beyond control, so that no one is blinding them.
Ms Pannu also said that the topic of sexual abuse is a huge taboo and that needs to change,
This topic is such a huge taboo in terms of education and its still such hush-hush because its always kept under the books. Girls need to be taught what is good and what is not good, so that they can have a relationship where they can talk to someone. Knowing what is good or not, these are the answers they should have. Girls are always asked to not speak up.
