FOR LEGAL AND MENTAL SUPPORT TO CHILD VICTIMS OF SEXUAL ABUSE
Justice for Every Child is a year-long campaign by Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation and NDTV to support child victims of sexual abuse and rape who are fighting for justice in court.
The horror of what they have gone through is multiplied many times over by what then follows the actual crime – a long and excruciating wait for justice.
Do you know that the current backlog of cases of crimes against children will take over eight years to clear? And that is if no new cases are added.
Child victims and their families are usually not aware of their right to access mental health support, financial compensation and rehabilitation. They feel frustrated as they navigate the complex criminal justice system without a designated support person.
The vulnerability of female survivors is compounded by social ostracisation, which often causes them to drop out of school and face gender-based discrimination.
When there is no fear of the law, no fear of justice, the criminals act with impunity. The public loses confidence in the justice delivery system and the abuse of children continues unchecked.
Justice For Every Child will ensure victims of child sexual abuse and rape get legal representation, mental health support, rehabilitation and compensation to enable them to heal and continue their lives with dignity and freedom.
An initiative of Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation, the campaign will intervene in 5,000 cases of child sexual abuse and rape in 100 Fast Track Special Courts (FTSCs) in 100 districts with the highest backlogs of POCSO cases across India.
Keeping our children safe, by swiftly punishing those who cause them grievous harm, should be a high priority for all of us.
The outrage and action needs to be as widespread as the violence. With your support this campaign will generate much needed funds to bolster the systems and institutions that will ensure the implementation of law, rehabilitation and healing of survivors and their families.
It will make our communities safer for children so that they are free to grow and flourish.
