Thousands of houses have been destroyed in Kerala's Alappuzha in the ravaging floods and have to be built from scratch. Supplies in homes have dwindled and many people continue to remain without food due to damages sustained by households. Schools are shut and children are without books. Community workers have been at the forefront of rescue operations in the district and Kala, an ASHA worker risked her life to take 30 people in a single boat and rescued them.
