India’s Minister of Electronics and Information Technology (IT), Ashwini Vaishnaw, reportedly issued a major statement of intent at the sidelines of the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos. As per the report, the Union Minister said that the country is in a prime position to create Indian smartphone brands that can compete with global leaders.

At Davos, Ursula von der Leyen made India the centrepiece of her declaration of European independence. The president of the European Commission said that she was travelling to New Delhi to energise the relationship.

Scott Bessent said that Indian refinery purchases of Russian oil have "collapsed" due to US tariffs, hinting that, while tariffs remain in place, a diplomatic "path" exists to remove them.
