An Oscar decade

Check out the winners at the Oscars over the last decade. Actors Helen Hunt and Jack Nicholson pose with their award for Best Actress and Best Actor in 1998 for As Good As It Gets.

In 1998, Hollywood saw one of its biggest blockbusters, Titanic. James Cameron won Best Director for the movie and he accepted the award with the words ''I'm the king of the world''. The film won 11 Oscars.

The year 1999 saw Italian actor-director Roberto Benigni win the Best Actor award for Life is Beautiful. The movie also won the Best Foreign Language Film award.

Gwenyth Paltrow won the Best Actress award in 1999 for Shakespeare in Love.

Steven Spielberg bagged the Best Director award for Saving Private Ryan in 1999.

Angelina Jolie won the Best Supporting Actress award in the year 2000 for Girl, Interrupted. This year, Angelina is nominated for Best Actress for her role in Changeling.

Michael Caine (Best Supporting Actor, Cider House Rules), Angelina Jolie, Hilary Swank (Best Actress, Boys Don't Cry) and Kevin Spacey (Best Actor, American Beauty) pose with their trophies at the Oscars 2000.

Sam Mendes won Best Director in 2000 for American Beauty. While his latest film Revolutionary Road isn't nominated for Best Picture or Best Director this year, it has bagged nominations for Best Art Direction, Best Costume and Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Michael Shannon. Mendes's wife Kate Winslet is up for Best Actress.

In 2001, pretty woman Julia Roberts got an Oscar for Best Actress for Erin Brockovich.

Russell Crowe received the Best Actor award for his performance in Gladiator in 2001.

Halle Berry got an Oscar for Best Actress for Mosnter's Ball in 2002. While she recovered and smiled after a while, she spent her entire acceptance speech crying copious tears.

The Best Actress of 2002, Halle Berry and Best Actor Denzel Washington posed together. Washington got the award for his performance in Training Day.

Adrien Brody got the Best Actor award for The Pianist in 2003. He accepted the award with a lip lock with presenter Halle Berry who was caught completely by surprise.

Peter Jackson, who won the Best Director award in 2004 for The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. The last film of the trilogy won a record-matching 11 Oscars.

Charlize Theron with her Best Actress award in 2004. She got the award for Monster.

Sean Penn with his Best Actor award for Mystic River in 2004. Penn is nominated again this year for his performance in Milk.

Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman, winners of the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor awards respectively, smile with their trophies. They won these awards for Million Dollar Baby in 2005.

Cate Blanchett with her award for Best Supporting Actress for The Aviator in 2005. She portrayed the role of Katherine Hepburn in the film. While Blanchett has a release this year (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), she isn't nominated.

Actor George Clooney was awarded the title of Best Supporting Actor for Syriana in 2006. This was also the year his directorial debut Good Night and Good Luck was nominated for Best Film and Best Director. While receiving the award Clooney said, ''So, I guess that means I'm not getting Best Director.''

Martin Scorses couldn't suppress a delighted grin as he received the award for Best Director in 2007 for The Departed. It is difficult to believe that this was Scorsese's first Oscar win.

Actress Marion Cotillard with her Best Actress award for La Vie En Rose in 2008. Hers was a surprise win as everyone had predicted that Julie Christie would win the award for Away From Her.

Tilda Swinton with her award for Best Supporting Actress for Michael Clayton in 2008. Swinton isn't a nominee this year though she played a supporting role in two films The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Burn After Reading.
