Sheer and bling dresses: Bling it on! Best Actress winner Cate Blanchett wore a glittering nude Armani Prive, Angelina Jolie, recipient of the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, wore sheer and sequinned Elie Saab while Sally Hawkins chose a part sheer golden Valentino.

Black dresses: Red carpet's favourite colour was seen on many this year too. Olivia Wilde glowed in a Valentino, Pretty Woman Julia Roberts was classy in Givenchy and Charlize Theron chose a Christian Dior haute couture dress.

Metallic dresses: There were many metallic moments on the red carpet this year. Anne Hathaway chose black Gucci embellished with a silver bodice, Emma Watson weaved her magic in a sparkling metallic and black Vera Wang gown while Jessica Biel wore a Chanel Haute Couture gown.

White dresses: The pristine colour was chosen by many including Naomi Watts in Calvin Klein, Laura Dern in Alberta Ferretti and Calista Flockhart in Andrew Gn.

Red dresses: Red was the colour of choice for Best Supporting Actress nominee Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior, Bette Midler in Reem Acra andOlga Kurylenko in Alice Elia.
