President Pranab Mukherjee, PM Narendra Modi Launch GST: Top 10 Photos
The landmark Goods and Services Tax (GST) was launched around midnight by President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the Central Hall of the Parliament.
The launch event of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) was held at the Central Hall of Parliament.
The GST launch event was attended by President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan among others.
Industrialist Ratan Tata also attended the GST launch event at the Parliament.
Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda also shared the dais with President Mukherjee and other dignitaries.
Former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha also attended the event.
While many opposition parties decided to boycott the event, the NCP decided to attend the ceremony.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley gave the opening address at the event.
In his address, PM Narendra Modi described GST as 'Good and Simple Tax'.
President Pranab Mukherjee said that the GST Council had surprised everyone by completing their task in time.
Shortly after President Pranab Mukherjee concluded his speech, he and PM Modi jointly launched the GST.
