India added 16,135 fresh coronavirus cases today, while 24 new deaths increased the country's virus-related death count to 5,25,223, showed Union Health Ministry data. The active cases stand at 1,13,864, comprising 0.26 per cent of the total infections, while the recovery rate was recorded at 98.54 per cent, the ministry said.
Nearly 198 crore doses of the coronavirus vaccines have so far been administered in the country, the Co-WIN dashboard showed.

Delhi Reports 420 New Covid Cases
Delhi reported 420 new Covid cases today, according to a health bulletin by the Delhi government.
The active cases stand at 2,938 with a daily positivity rate of 5.25 per cent. One patient died due to Covid, with this the death count in the capital is at 26,272.
As many as 749 Covid patients recovered in the last 24 hours taking the total number of recoveries from the disease to 19,08,223.
Himachal Pradesh Reports 133 New Covid Cases
Himachal Pradesh recorded 133 new Covid cases as the state maintained an upward trend in the number of people testing positive for the disease, an official said.
The fresh cases pushed the state's infection count to 2,86,547, an official said. The active Covid cases rose to 676.
The death count remained unchanged at 4,122
The official said, 129 more patients recovered from the infection, adding the number of recoveries has reached 2,81,730.
Chhattisgarh Reports 132 New Covid cases
Chhattisgarh recorded 132 new Covid cases, taking the overall tally to 11,54,859, an official said
The death count remained unchanged at 14,038, the official said.
The recovery count reached 11,39,781 after 113 persons recovered, leaving the state with an active tally of 1,040, the official said.
Maharashtra Reports 1,515 New Covid, 50% Less Than Previous Day
Maharashtra reported 1,515 new Covid cases, nearly 50 per cent less compared to the previous day, taking the overall tally to 79,86,811.
Three more deaths linked to the infection were reported, taking the death count to 1,47,943, said the state health department.
The state reported a drop of 1,447 cases as compared to Sunday when the daily count was 2,962.
Maharashtra's coronavirus recovery rate stood at 97.87 per cent, while the death rate was 1.85 per cent.
Goa Reports 75 New Covid Cases, 1 Death
Goa reported 75 new Covid cases today, taking the overall case count to 2,49,170. The death count increased to 3,839 after 1 Covid-related death was reported.
The recovery count increased by 148 to touch 2,44,368, leaving the state with an active caseload of 963.
Mumbai Reports 431 New Covid Cases, 43% Less Than Previous Day
Mumbai reported 431 new Covid cases today and 2 Covid-related deaths. The overall Covid tally in Mumbai jumped to 1,115,473, while the death count increased to 19,619, said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in a bulletin.
The city recorded a 43 per cent drop in number of cases compared to previous day.
Mumbai's daily cases went down for the fifth consecutive day. The metropolis has logged 330 less COVID-19 cases as compared to the previous day when the tally was 761 besides three fatalities.
Also, 1,060 patients recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, pushing up their total count to 10,88,814 and leaving Mumbai with 7,040 active COVID-19 cases.
245 new Covid cases in Odisha
Odisha recorded 245 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, taking the tally to 12,90,783, news agency PTI reported quoting the state health department. The test positivity rate fell to 1.92 per cent from 2.68 the previous day, as the cases were detected out of 12,748 samples tested.
Khurda district of which the capital city Bhubaneswar is a part, reported the highest number of 135 new infections, followed by 38 in Cuttack. Forty-one children were afflicted with the disease.
On Sunday, the state had logged 346 new COVID-19 cases.
South Korea reported 6,253 new COVID-19 cases
South Korea reported 6,253 new COVID-19 cases as of midnight Sunday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 18,395,864, the health authorities said Monday.
The daily caseload was down from 10,059 in the previous day, but it was far higher than 3,423 tallied a week earlier, according to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA).
For the past week, the daily average number of confirmed cases was 9,499. Among the new cases, 164 were imported, lifting the total to 35,926.
Ladakh reports 49 new Covid cases
Ladakh has reported 49 fresh cases of coronavirus, thereby increasing the COVID-19 tally to 28,513, while 10 patients were discharged from the hospital, PTI reported quoting officials.
It is this year's highest single day jump in COVID-19 cases in the union territory, they said. All positive cases were recorded in Leh.
So far, 228 people have succumbed to COVID-19 in Ladakh. Of these, 168 deaths were reported from Leh and 60 from Kargil, according to the officials.
The officials said the number of active COVID-19 cases has gone up to 150 in Ladakh-- all in the Leh.
New COVID-19 test can identify all variants in hoursScientists in the US have developed a rapid COVID-19 test that can accurately detect all current variants of SARS-CoV-2 within hours, news agency PTI reported today. The test, CoVarScan, detects the signatures of eight hotspots on the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19.
The researchers at the University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center in the US tested CoVarScan on samples collected from more than 4,000 patients.
The research, published recently in the journal Clinical Chemistry, shows that the test is as accurate as other methods used to diagnose COVID-19, and can successfully differentiate between all current variants of SARS-CoV-2.
India Covid cases: Assam reports 74 COVID-19 cases
Assam has reported 74 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 7,24,926, according to the National Health Mission (NHM) bulletin. The positivity rate has increased to 8.89 per cent on Sunday as against the previous day's 8.15 per cent, it said.
The number of active COVID-19 cases has increased to 574 as against the previous day's 550, the bulletin said.
Kamrup (Metro) district reported the highest of 56 cases followed by six in Darrang, five in Goalpara and two in Dibrugarh among others.
Maharashtra cases: Thane records 472 new COVID-19 cases; active tally at 4,724
As many as 472 new cases of coronavirus have been detected in Maharashtra's Thane district, taking its infection tally to 7,29,440, news agency PTI said quoting a health official.
With the addition of the latest cases on Sunday, the district currently has 4,724 active COVID-19 cases, he said.
One death was also reported on Sunday, raising the toll to 11,909. The recovery count in Thane has reached 7,12,716, the official added.

COVID-19 India News: 648 New Cases, 5 More Deaths In Delhi
Delhi on Sunday recorded 648 fresh COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 4.29 per cent, while five more people succumbed to the viral disease, according to data shared by the city's health department. This is the fourth consecutive day when the daily case count is less than 1,000. With the new fatalities, Delhi's death count increased to 26,271, the health department bulletin said. (PTI)
