Thousands of students heading to the UK and elsewhere have to pay exorbitant amounts to quarantine before they can join college. #UnlockEducation a campaign on the NDTV network aims to help Indian students cover some of the costs of the quarantine on arrival, in the destination country, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This special show also features their stories and brings them help. The goal of this project is to ensure that the most needy students, particularly those on scholarships and on student loans are able to afford the self-quarantine expenses.

A look at how the campaign is helping the students of India:

Pooja Mishra is one such student. Pooja, from Bihar, was all set to start studying in Netherlands. But added self-quarantine costs almost cost Pooja her dream. But, Pooja was determined not to let the quarantine stop her, so she desperately started looking for additional funds. She came across Unlock Education campaign and decided to submit her application for grants. Now thanks to Unlock Education campaign, Pooja's quarantine cost will be taken care off.

Charu Lalwani was another student who was worried about this last minute expenditure. But thanks to the Unlock Education campaign, even her expenses of self-quarantine are now being taken care by the campaign.

About The Campaign

#UnlockEducation is a campaign on the NDTV network to help Indian students cover some of the costs of the mandatory 10-day self-quarantine accommodation on arrival, in the UK, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal of this project is to ensure that the most needy students, particularly those on scholarships and on student loans are able to afford the compulsory Rs. 2 lakh expense towards the 10-day compulsory quarantine in a UK government managed facility for those students arriving from a Red List country, like India. Students travelling to other countries in Europe or elsewhere, who face similar self-paid quarantine because the acceptance of the Covishield vaccine has been delayed, are also eligible to apply for financial assistance through this scheme.

The scheme will continue to cover some of the costs of students in 10-day self-quarantine accommodation if India moves from the UK's Red List to the Amber list.
