Stories are a joyful way to stimulate young minds, with benefits that extend beyond language development to improving understanding across all subjects. Research shows that listening to stories strengthens comprehension, hones communication skills, and fosters imagination and creativity in children. When a child’s curiosity is sparked by a story they hear, they are more likely to pick up a book, ask questions, and actively engage in the learning process.
Pratham's large-scale summer learning initiative, CAMaL Ka Camp, began this May. This five-week, community-driven catch-up camp is designed to help children in Grades 5 and 6 strengthen their reading, writing, and math skills. A key highlight of the summer camp is the Kahani Train (Story Train)—a delightful collection of short, engaging stories available in multiple regional languages.
The Kahani Train initiative began in 2022 through a collaboration between Pratham Education Foundation, Rekhta Foundation, and Nayi Dhara, with the aim of fostering active listening skills and cultivating a culture of storytelling among children. It is now in its fifth season.Curious to explore these stories?
