This move will serve dual purposes for the government. It will encourage more traders and merchants to opt for cashless payments of the tax, as a majority of them will be paying an amount more than Rs 10,000. This will also ensure that merchants or traders who would earlier compromise with tax payments will no longer be able to do so as cashless payment methods will ensure that the right amount is paid, said R.S. Goyal, Senior Tax Consultant, Goyal Associates.
This is also a good way to bring more merchants and traders under the cashless ambit. They can make themselves familiar with processes such as internet banking, usage of debit or credit cards and pay the required amount of taxes. Indirectly, GST will encourage traders to adopt cashless means of payment and reduce dependency on cash, said Mr. Goyal.
