Wave Industries And Ponty Chadha Foundation Provide Healthcare Equipment In Rural Areas To Fight COVID-19

New Delhi:

The second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic has left the country grappling with keeping the transmission of infection in check. Not only has the pandemic led to the shortage of essential healthcare facilities for those infected by COVID-19, but it has also affected the medical care required by non-COVID patients. To support people struggling due to the overwhelmed healthcare infrastructure, Wave Industries along with the Ponty Chadha Foundation initiated relief work. This includes preparing kits of necessary medicines, along with setting up a COVID facility, COVID ICU beds, oxygen banks, among others.

For 53-year-old Hari Raj, a sugarcane farmer from Amroha in Uttar Pradesh who tested positive along with his entire family, procuring even the basic medicines became extremely challenging. He Hariraj reached out to the help desk of Wave industries which has started an initiative to provide help to the local population and found help. He said,

I had fever and a little cough. When I got myself tested, I was positive. We went to the hospital, but couldn't get any help. But there was immediate relief when we got here.

Sarita, a farmer in the same area who was seeking help found support at the help desk of Wave industries.

We are very thankful to them for helping us in these times. They helped other villagers too who tested positive. We want to thank them again, she said.

Along with COVID-19 patients who are struggling due to the overwhelmed health care infrastructure, non-COVID patients also being provided help by this initiative of Wave industries along with the Ponty Chaddha Foundation.

When 59-year-old Sanjeev Bhatnagar, an employee with the wave industries suffered a paralysis in the month of May, the family struggled to arrange an Oxygen concentrator amid the shortage. Finally, the company managed to provide the help needed to save life of their employee. His wife Reena Bhatnagar said,

My husband was very seriously ill on May 3 and 4. We looked all over Dhanaura for a cylinder, but couldn't find one anywhere. It was when we called the Wave factory, that we got an oxygen cylinder from there.

While talking to NDTV about the initiative, A K Singh, VP-HR and Admin, Wave Industries said that the pandemic has given a new purpose to their lives- to help others. He said,

In our area, we saw someone falling ill every day, in the household of a farmer who lives nearby. There was sudden increase in oxygen demand. So, we created a help desk and provided names and helpline numbers for our senior officers, so that anybody who needs assistance can call, and we can immediately provide them with medicines, oxygen cylinders, oximeters, concentrators and so on.

The Ponty Chadha Foundation has also been providing help to the local administration to strengthen their fight against the rising COVID cases.

Around a week ago we were getting at least 100 cases per day. We were facing too many problems. Even our emergency staff was overburdened. We needed a collaborative hand. Wave industries supported us very well, as they have in the past. They helped us with sanitisation here, and in nearby villages too. They have also provided us with drinking water bottles. Just today we have raised a request for pulse oximeters and thermal scanners. And they have promised to provide us those as well, said Dr. Sudeep Gupta.

At a time when the entire country is together in the fight against COVID-19, the contribution of Wave industries and the Ponty Chadha Foundation is an example of how industrial resources can strengthen our fight against COVID-19.

About The Campaign

About The Campaign

India is in crisis.

At a time when infection rates are soaring and every day brings grim news, at a time when beds, oxygen, medicine & hope seem to have all run out, all of India is feeling the same despair, the same distress, the same devastation.

But through the darkness, there has been a ray of light.

The Sikh community has been at the forefront of relentlessly helping people during through the pandemic. If the rich living tradition of food sharing, as widely practiced in langars or community kitchens, fed millions last year, then this year the langars have provided an even more critical & basic element of life – oxygen.

In the time honoured Sikh tradition of selfless service and compassion, these Oxygen Langars sprang up almost immediately across affected cities, and in gurdwaras, where volunteers stood with oxygen cylinders for hours, helping breathless patients breathe, helping India breathe.

The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee & NDTV are coming together for a special fundraising campaign, Dil Se Sewa – Helping India Breathe.

The funds raised will aid in providing this urgently needed support, amongst many others. It will go to support the gurdwara’s immediate & critical interventions like the oxygen langars, a newly created COVID care facility and the free ambulance service. But it will also contribute to other existing efforts that all aim to strengthen India’s health system for the future  – the free dialysis hospital, the low cost MRI & CT Scan centre and the dawakhanas that provide medicines at reasonable rates.
