In an era where health and nutrition have become integral to daily life, Herbalife has teamed up with NDTV to launch the ‘Nutrition Matters' campaign. This new initiative shines a spotlight on the essential role of nutrition in advocating for a healthier lifestyle.
Host Nayan S. Parekh begins with introducing Ajay Khanna, the Managing Director of Herbalife. Mr Khanna revealed the company's mission, highlighting its commitment to global health and wellness. Herbalife, he explained, has always been driven by science-backed nutrition products that empower people to make better health choices. “Herbalife is a global leader in health and wellness dedicated to helping people live healthier, happier lives through science-packed nutrition products and a commitment to excellence,” said Mr Khanna.
Troy Hicks, Chief Operating Officer of Herbalife, said that his leadership philosophy is heavily influenced by the idea of continuous self-improvement. “Work on yourself more than you work on your job,” he quoted, referencing the philosophy of Jim Rohn. “The continuous pursuit of developing yourself and growing to see what you can make of yourself has served me well in life,” Mr Hicks reflected. This mindset not only drives his personal growth but also shapes Herbalife's culture of flexibility and positive thinking.
According to Mr Hicks, the company's culture is deeply inspired by its distributors, who bring an entrepreneurial spirit to the table. “No matter what the challenge is, it can be overcome as long as you lean into it in a very positive way,” he explains. As the company grows, maintaining a strong and unified purpose remains key. “We all sum up to a common purpose, which is the business outcomes as a company that we're trying to achieve,” Mr Hicks added, saying that the broader goal is to help people better their lives and communities.
At Herbalife, quality is embedded in the entire process. Mr Hicks stresses that the company's “quality by design” philosophy is central to its success. “Quality is not just the department, right? It is the philosophy of our product supply chain and everything we do,” he explained. The company's commitment to quality is visible in every step of production, from the raw materials to the final product, ensuring consistency and safety. One of his proudest moments, particularly in India, was when the team had the integrity to stop production lines to maintain quality standards. “Quality over quantity in our way,” Mr Hicks proudly said.
Gary Swanson, Herbalife's Senior Vice President of Quality Assurance and Control, shed light on the rigorous processes in place to maintain product consistency. He explained that the first step is the careful selection and approval of raw materials. “All raw materials must be reviewed and approved before they're ever used in the manufacturing process,” Mr Swanson said. He also talked about the importance of developing and qualifying formulas before manufacturing and the stringent monitoring systems that ensure only the best reaches the consumer.
Herbalife's commitment to quality assurance extends beyond internal processes. The company validates its claims through third-party testing to ensure that products meet the highest standards. “Product quality standards are additional testament to the quality that we establish in our products,” Mr Swanson said.
David Walsh, Senior Vice President of Global Manufacturing, Distribution, and Logistics, spoke about the complex challenge of overseeing operations that span across numerous markets. “It's not about me. It's the team,” Mr Walsh humbly remarked, attributing the company's success to the dedication and innovation of its global team, particularly in India. He praised his team members for their expertise, innovation, and drive, saying that success lies in their ability to work together seamlessly.
Mr Walsh also underlined the crucial role of collaboration across departments, particularly in ensuring that Herbalife's products meet regulatory standards and consumer expectations. “We know what good looks like and we know what great looks like,” he explained, stressing that from the initial product ideation to the final delivery, every step is executed with excellence.
