Helping Improve Rural Household Incomes In India, USHA Silai School Trains Men Across The Country

Along with reviving the traditional craft and providing employment opportunities to the underprivileged women all over India, USHA Silai School programme is providing sewing training to underprivileged men also. The latest extensions aim to help rural households in India improve their earnings.

Nagarajan, a father of two young children, is from Coimbatore. He is one of the USHA Silai School's men learners who, after completing his training, now owns a shop and runs his own sewing school.

Today, Nagarajan earns more than Rs. 500 a day. Out of this, while he keeps Rs.100 for his production expenses, he uses the rest for funding the education of his children.

Nagrajan is just one the many men learners who have benefited from the USHA Silai School initiative. Since states like Tamil Nadu and the neighboring places face increasing instances of unemployment, such initiatives have proved to be fruitful in creating employment within the states boundaries, curbing migration.

Thyagarajan, one of beneficiaries of USHA Silai School initiative earns nearly Rs. 6000 every month. He not only owns a tailoring shop, but also teaches students for Rs. 100-200 each.

Before USHA Silai School ventured in training men across the country, their focus was mainly on the underprivileged women. However, their latest initiative has undoubtedly helped many rural households in India to stay out of the clutches of poverty and succeed.
