Two Women Overcome Their Traumatic Past In Nithari Village To Rebuild Their Life

"I am grateful to the Usha Silai School for making me independent. Had it not been for it, my life would have continued to be difficult" says Rubina Begum who had been struggling to get a hold of her life living in Nithari village.

In only a year of being part of the Usha Silai School, Rubina has managed to restore the normalcy in her life that had lacked since the day her village became the focal point of a horrific serial murder case where over 19 women and young children were killed.

Now, financial stable, Rubina has mastered the skill of sewing and carpet making. She is passing on her skills and knowledge to other village women.

"Before becoming part of the Usha Silai School, I felt helpless and alone" says Soni, a woman who lost her 10-year old sister around the same time when the serial murders took place. Today, she is teaching carpet making to other women in the centre started by Joint Women Program.

Usha Silai School has not only given the women of Nithari a ray of hope but has also paved the way for them to live happily and overcome their fears of Nithari's gruesome past repeating itself.
