Rubina Begum's Life In Nithari: From Stifling Existence To A Ray Of Hope

Looking at NGO Mera Sahara's outstanding work in Nithari, Usha International joined in, with its Silai School Programme to skill Nithari's women in tailoring and design. The joint initiative identified that the community, which was already conservative in its attitude towards women, and became socially stifling for them post 2006. The fear and pain of Nithari killings still hung in the air. The families didn’t allow women to go out because they were afraid of the incident getting repeated. Silai was the work which was easy and also they could do it from their place. Rubina went to Usha Silai School and got trained there. Now it's been one year. While her husband does all the repairing work she does Silai to fulfill all the needs of the family.
