USHA Silai Schools Stitching A Sustainable Future

USHA Silai School in partnerships with non-governmental organisations like Looms of Ladakh Cooperative, UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) and The Corbett Foundation is working towards a sustainable future. Looms of Ladakh Women Cooperative, a farm-to-fashion collective that works towards training unemployed women artisans from Ladakh to make knitted and woven woollen products from the region's rich heritage of wool in all its renditions: pashmina, yak, sheep and camel. Looms of Ladakh collaborated with USHA Silai School to help women learn to stitch and make finished products out of the raw material. In another partnership between USHA and UNFPA, the program will prepare 100 master trainers who will in turn train 3,000 women across India in life skills over three years hopes to be the genesis of a small social change. With the addition of life skills training, Classical Silai School training module will be of 9 days training. The Corbett Foundation and USHA Silai school are on a mission to provide women of forest area in Thane an alternate source of livelihood and to reduce their dependence on forests.
