Women In Meghalaya Stitch For The Environment, Thanks To USHA

Meghalaya the abode of clouds, is one of the most beautiful states of India, but pollution caused by plastic is taking away the beauty of Meghalaya. To protect the dense forest, the state Pollution Control Board banned the use of plastic bags with a thickness of less than 50 microns. To support the initiative and provide an alternative to single-use plastic bags, the state conceptualised a project with USHA Silai school program wherein the women were trained to make cloth and jute bags. This initiative has not only empowered women of the state but uplifted their status by providing them with a source of income.
