Live: Trump Calls Denmark 'Ungrateful' Over Greenland During Davos Speech

WEF Davos Live Updates:

Davos LIVE Updates: US President Donald Trump is in Davos for a showdown with European leaders as his bid to seize Greenland threatens to tear the transatlantic alliance apart. The US leader brutally mocked the Europeans a day before heading to the World Economic Forum, where he will star in a drama over the fate of the autonomous Danish territory. But leaders in the Swiss ski resort have closed ranks against Trump's aggressive America First stance, with French President Emmanuel Macron vowing to stand up against "bullies" and the EU promising an "unflinching" response.

"I'm going to a beautiful place in Switzerland where I'm sure I'm very happily awaited for," Trump said with a smile at a White House briefing to mark his first year back in power, before leaving for Davos. Asked how far he was prepared to go to acquire Greenland from Denmark, a fellow NATO member, Trump replied, "You'll find out."

Later, as he left the White House for his flight, the president admitted he had "no idea" how the trip to Davos would pan out.

Trump's eagerly awaited speech at the annual gathering of the world's economic and political elite, which he is attending for the first time in six years, is scheduled for 2:30pm (7:00 PM IST). But as the biggest rift opens between Washington and Europe in decades over his Greenland ambitions, Trump said he would have a number of meetings on the issue at Davos.

Davos Live: Trump Mocks France's Macron At Davos For Playing 'Tough'

US President Donald Trump mocked Emmanuel Macron at Davos Wednesday, taking aim at sunglasses his French counterpart wore a day earlier for health issues and accusing him of playing tough over pharmaceutical price negotiations.

"I watched him yesterday with those beautiful sunglasses -- what the hell happened? But I watched him sort of be tough" over his hesitation to raise drug prices to be more in line with US rates, Trump said in an address to the economic forum.

"I said, 'Emmanuel you've been taking advantage of the United States for 30 years with prescription drugs. You really should do it, and you will do it,'" Trump said.

Davos Live: Huge Lines, Laughs And Gasps As Trump Addresses Davos Elites

It looked like a rock concert: hundreds of the world's rich and powerful stood in a massive line for a precious seat to hear US President Donald Trump deliver his speech in the Swiss ski resort of Davos.

After a two-hour wait, the doors to the World Economic Forum's congress hall closed to the disappointment of many who had to scramble for spots in four overflow rooms to watch him on television screens.

The exclusive crowd included executives of top companies, academics and politicians -- even the president of Latvia, Edgars Rinkevics, was stuck in line at one point before an aide guided him elsewhere.

"It's like a rock festival," one attendee said. Another watched Trump's helicopter landing in the mountain retreat on her phone.

Davos Live: Trump Says Will Meet Zelensky At Davos On Wednesday

US President Donald Trump said he would meet with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday to discuss ending the war with Russia, but again slammed NATO and stressed Washington had "nothing to do with" the conflict.

"I'm dealing with President Putin and he wants to make a deal, I believe. I'm dealing with President Zelensky and I think he wants to make a deal. I'm meeting him today," Trump told world leaders at a summit in Davos, though he added that NATO has "to work on Ukraine, we don't... We have nothing to do with it".

Zelensky has not confirmed he would travel to Davos and earlier in the week indicated he would skip the forum to stay in Kyiv and deal with widespread blackouts, heating outages and power cuts following Russian strikes.

Davos 2026 LIVE: Trump Will Talk Domestic Policy At Davos, Where His Quest For Greenland Could Overshadow Other Goals

President Donald Trump made a delayed landing in Switzerland for his speech to the World Economic Forum on Wednesday, after a minor electrical issue aboard Air Force forced a return to Washington to switch aircraft.

The White House said arriving late wouldn't push back his scheduled address at the forum in the Swiss Alps - where his ambitions to wrest control of Greenland from NATO ally Denmark could tear relations with European allies and overshadow his original plan to use his appearance at the gathering of global elites to address affordability issues back home.

Trump's speech is set to focus on domestic policy. But it may touch on Greenland as well as the US military operation that led to the recent ouster of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Davos 2026 LIVE | Markets Factoring That Trump Will Strike Deal On Greenland Post Davos Summit: Ajay Bagga

Global Investors are largely factoring in a negotiated outcome on the Greenland issue after the World Economic Forum (WEF) summit concludes in Davos, and therefore do not expect a major or long-lasting impact on the US bond market, opines banking and market expert Ajay Bagga.

Bagga said that despite the resurfacing of tensions between the US and Europe over Greenland that has triggered renewed tariff concerns and "Sell America" flows, the situation is still being seen as manageable by markets.

"For now, it is still minor," Bagga told ANI. "Most of the market thinks that post-Davos, Donald Trump will come back with some kind of deal where the US may get four or five bases in Greenland, and it won't deteriorate further from that."

Davos 2026 LIVE: Trump Is On His Way To Davos, Where His Quest To Own Greenland Could Overshadow His Other Goals

President Donald Trump heads to the World Economic Forum in the Swiss Alps on Wednesday where his ambitions to wrest control of Greenland from NATO ally Denmark could tear relations with European allies and overshadow his original plan to use his appearance at the gathering of global elites to address affordability issues back home.

Trump arrives for the international forum at Davos on the heels of threatening tariffs on Denmark and seven other allies unless they negotiate a transfer of the semi-autonomous territory - a concession the European leaders indicated they are not willing to make. Trump said the tariffs would start at 10% next month and climb to 25% in June, rates that would be high enough to increase costs and slow growth, potentially hurting Trump's efforts to tamp down the high cost of living.

Davos 2026 LIVE: US "Behaving Very Strangely" For An Al, Says EU Bank Chief
The United States "is behaving very strangely" for an ally, European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde said Wednesday, as US President Donald Trump steps up his campaign to take Greenland from NATO ally Denmark.

Trump's bid to seize the Arctic island has opened up the deepest rift between Washington and Europe in decades, with the US leader threatening tariffs on several countries over their opposition to his designs on the Danish territory.

Asked in Davos in an interview with French radio station RTL whether the United States was an "ally" or "adversary" of the EU, Lagarde responded: "They are behaving very strangely for allies."

"When you are allies under the North Atlantic Treaty, when you have been allies for decades and have been part of each other's history, threatening to seize territory that is clearly not for sale, such as Greenland, and waving tariff restrictions, and various other restrictions on international trade, is not really behaving like an ally," she said.

She said she would be paying close attention to the US president's speech later Wednesday at the annual gathering of the world's economic and political elite.

Davos Live Updates: IT Minister Rejects “Second-Tier” Tag For India On AI
Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday pushed back strongly against remarks by IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva that placed India in a "second grouping" of AI powers, asserting that global benchmarks show the country among the top tier and that India is building capabilities across the full artificial intelligence stack.

Speaking on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Vaishnaw questioned the yardstick used by the IMF chief and cited a Stanford assessment that, he said, ranks India third globally on AI preparedness. "I don't know what the IMF criteria is but Stanford places India at 3rd in the world for AI preparedness. I don't think your classification is correct," the Minister said, arguing that India should be viewed as "clearly in the first group."

Vaishnaw framed India's AI push as a multi-layered effort spanning "five layers in the AI architecture"-the application layer, model layer, chip layer, infrastructure layer and energy layer. India, he said, is "working on all the five layers" and making "very good progress" across each, a point he linked to the country's broader economic trajectory as the world's fastest-growing major economy.

Davos 2026 LIVE Updates: Trump Heads For Davos Maelstrom Over Greenland
US President Donald Trump descends on Davos for a showdown with European leaders Wednesday as his bid to seize Greenland threatens to tear the transatlantic alliance apart. Trump mocked the Europeans a day before heading to the World Economic Forum, where he will be the star of a dark, self-made drama over the fate of the autonomous Danish territory.

But leaders gathered at the Swiss ski resort have closed ranks against Trump's aggressive stance, with French President Emmanuel Macron vowing to stand up against "bullies" and the EU promising an "unflinching" response.

Asked how far he was prepared to go to acquire Greenland from Denmark, a fellow NATO member, Trump told reporters: "You'll find out." Later as he left the White House, the president admitted he had "no idea" how the trip to Davos would pan out.

It got off to an inauspicious start when a "minor electrical issue" forced his presidential jet to turn back shortly after takeoff, and Trump and his entourage had to switch to another plane. Trump's eagerly awaited speech at the annual gathering of the world's economic and political elite, which he is attending for the first time in six years, is scheduled for 2:30pm (1330 GMT).

"Transition Is An Engine For Growth": Pralhad Joshi On Renewable Energy At Davos

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, on Wednesday, during the World Economic Forum, explained how the shift toward green energy is acting as a powerful tool for economic growth. He stated that by focusing on renewable energy sources such as the sun and wind, the country is now able to produce electricity at a much lower cost for its citizens.

Connecting the energy shift to national progress, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said, "India's agenda at Davos is that transition is not a burden for growth, it is an engine for growth. And because of that, the cost of renewable energy has come down in India. Because of this renewable movement, which the Prime Minister started almost from 2015-16 and very aggressively from almost 2019, it is bringing down the entire cost of electricity in India. Now, Andhra Pradesh has said that we are going to reduce the cost of electricity. Devendra Fadnavis, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, has announced that the tariff will come down. Now we're pitching for battery storage, pump storage, grid stability, green energy corridor, all these things put together in the coming days, India can showcase itself that we are producing green energy, transition is also happening, and growth is also taking place. Our growth is good, and our renewable energy is also growing well."

Davos Live Updates: Macron Denounces US Competition To 'Subordinate Europe'

French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday sharply criticised the United States' trade practices, saying Washington's tariff threats "openly aim to weaken and subordinate Europe" and are being used as leverage against territorial sovereignty, in a subtle reference to US President Donald Trump's suggestion of annexing Greenland.

During his address at the 56th Annual Summit of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Macron highlighted rising global instability and imbalances across security, defence, and economic domains.

"It is clear that we are moving into a time of instability and imbalances, both from a security, defence, and economic point of view," he said.
