New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was fasting and sipped mostly warm water when he visited the US last year. US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle will be offered heavy indian fare at banquets whose substantial menus include galauti kebabs, bhuna gosht, Gajar ka Halwa and Gulab Jamun.

Some media reports say their advisers have suggested sticking to the meals prepped by the battery of White House chefs that have accompanied the US delegation to India. Delhi Belly warning, perhaps?

The Obamas are both known to be very health-conscious.

President Obama, 53, has been photographed with his fit abs as Exhibit A of a grueling fitness regime. The First Lady is famous for her toned arms; both are known to wake up early for their workout regimen.

The Indian Prime Minister prefers simple fare and is often commended for his unusual stamina that trounces a punishing schedule.

When PM Modi visited the US in September, he was on a fast for the Navratris and only sipped warm water and lemonade the entire time.

At the White House dinner, PM Modi urged everyone, "Please don't feel embarrassed and continue with your food."
