Even as lockdown was imposed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the state of Telangana kept on moving to fulfill its promises on delivery and good governance. The administration, policy makers and above all the leader of Telangana, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao never wasted a moment even during the lockdowns. The state's administration sprang into action and completed many critical projects, making the best possible use of available resources, turning the challenge into an opportunity. Here are some of the projects that were completed during the pandemic:
SRDP: The Strategic Road Development Plan under Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation accomplished some impressive projects.
Durgam Cheruvu: : The 735-metre bridge connecting Jubilee Hills with the Hi-Tech City finished at an estimated cost of Rs 184 crores.
Many other critical projects completed under the SRDP are like flyover and underpass construction - flyover at Biodiversity Junction, LB Nagar Junction, and Nagole Junction, besides an underpass at the LB Nagar Junction to name a few.
Road widening in Amberpet, Balanagar, and Uppal areas too has been taken up. Missing link roads project connecting various important stretches were cleared. A total of 37 stretches constituting missing links between major thoroughfares have been identified and handed over to the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation (HRDCL) for development.
SNDP: Strategic Nala Development Plan prepares the city against the hassles of monsoon by desilting, cleaning and relaying of various nala (drains) in the city to provide obstacle free run to rain water. Beautification of parks, restoration of heritage sites in the city are all other notable programs undertaken by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).
Comprehensive Road Maintenance Project: 709 km of major road stretches have been handed over for private maintenance for five years, with a cost of Rs 1,839 crore. Recarpeting of 250 Km roads have also been achieved.
