With an aim to unlock renewable energy access in emerging economies, a 3-day event named ‘The Energy Transition Dialogues' is being organised in New Delhi to bring together all the key stakeholders under one roof. The event will be held from November 1 to November 3 at the Hyatt Regency. The Energy Transition Dialogues (TETD) is being powered by the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) and the Observer Research Foundation (ORF). Formed in 2021 at the COP26 World Leaders Summit, GEAPP is an alliance of philanthropists, entrepreneurs, governments, decision-makers in emerging and developed economies, and technology and financing partners.
It works towards delivering transformational programs to accelerate equitable energy transition in developing and emerging economies. GEAPP said that The Energy Transition Dialogues will bring together domestic and international stakeholders to deliberate on and devise solutions to key issues to further a people-positive energy transition.
TETD will be delivered through focused deliberations on experiences gathered through programmes around six thematic pillars: enhancing Renewable Energy (RE)/ Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to achieve 50GW per annum; scaling up energy efficiency; utility modernization; decarbonisation of transport; people positive energy transition, and clean energy financing. The Dialogues will utilise multiple formats, including closed-door and public discussions.
Over 300 attendees from the highest levels of government, business and finance, both from India and other countries, will be attending the event. Some prominent names on the speakers' list include Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry and Amitabh Kant, G20 Sherpa - India. NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery will also speak at the event. Among corporates, NTPC Chairman Gurdeep Singh, Praj Industries Founder and Chairman Pramod Chaudhari and Hitachi Energy India South Asia MD and CEO Venu Nuguri will participate in the discussions.
GEAPP said that The Energy Transition Dialogues will aim to develop an actionable road map to support India in achieving 2030 goals by identifying challenges and developing strategies to overcome them and further take the nation towards its 2047 goals. The event will present a joint communiqué, which will serve as a roadmap for clean energy transitions through cross-sectoral collaborations. Notably, India has already laid out a very ambitious roadmap for its energy transition, exemplified by its commitment to reach Net Zero by 2070 and achieve 500 GW of electricity capacity from non-traditional sources by 2030.
