US President-elect Joe Biden said that voters had given him a "convincing" victory after he was projected to have defeated Donald Trump. "Folks, the people of this nation have spoken. They've delivered us a clear victory, a convincing victory," an ebullient Biden told a victory rally in his home state of Delaware.
US Democrat Joe Biden captured the US presidency on Saturday as voters narrowly rebuffed Republican incumbent Donald Trump's tumultuous leadership and embraced Biden's promise to fight the coronavirus pandemic and fix the economy in a divided nation.
Winning the battleground state of Pennsylvania's 20 Electoral College votes gave the former vice president more than the 270 he needed to triumph, prompting all major TV networks to declare him victor came after four days of nail-biting suspense following Tuesday's election.
"I am honored and humbled by the trust the American people have placed in me and in Vice President-elect (Kamala) Harris. In the face of unprecedented obstacles, a record number of Americans voted," Biden said on Twitter. "With the campaign over, it's time to put the anger and the harsh rhetoric behind us and come together as a nation. It's time for America to unite. And to heal."
Trump, who has made repeated claims of electoral fraud without providing evidence, immediately accused Biden of "rushing to falsely pose as the winner."

Joe Biden to name "leading scientists" on Monday to Covid task force
US President-elect Joe Biden vowed Saturday to name a group top scientists to his coronavirus task force as early as Monday. "On Monday I will name a group of leading scientists and experts as transition advisors to help take the Biden-Harris plan and convert it into an actual blueprint that will start on January 20, 2021," he told supporters.
The pledge came in Biden's first speech since being projected as the winner of the presidential election, signaling that he plans to prioritize the pandemic from the outset.

While the streets of many American cities erupted in joy Saturday at the news of Joe Biden's victory in the presidential election, hardcore Donald Trump supporters refused to accept the result, alleging fraud and conspiracy. In cities including Phoenix, Philadelphia and Atlanta, the outgoing president's loyalists gathered under the slogan of #StopTheSteal, repeating Trump's unfounded allegations that Biden's win was based on cheating.
They wore red Trump hats, held signs reading "Stop The Steal" and waved American flags or Trump banners bearing the slogan: "Keep America Great."

Donald Trump arrives back at White House, following news of his defeat
US President Donald Trump returned to the White House on Saturday after playing golf on the morning that news came through of his election defeat by Joe Biden. The presidential motorcade drove close to the Black Lives Matter Plaza, opposite the White House, where a large crowd was celebrating Trump's defeat.
The Republican, who is claiming without providing evidence that he actually won the election, spent the morning at a golf club he owns in Virginia.
