In 2020, the pervasive nature of COVID-19 brought learning to a screeching halt worldwide. Effects of lockdown continue to reverberate this year too. This is what exemplifies by the MBCN students with special needs whose relentless hope backed the adverse scenarios from becoming a psychologically draining episodes of pessimism.

Children With Special Needs Are Forerunners

Ponty Chadha Foundation, the CSR arm of the wave group has always been very vigilant towards the inclusivity and progress of weaker and marginalized sections of the society. Towards this, it developed a dedicated entity to cater to the self-sufficiency and developmental requirements of children with special needs - Mata Bhagwanti Chadha Niketan (MBCN). MBCN to date has changed the life trajectory of more than 25000 children, enabling and empowering them to lead an independent life and instill the virtue of giving back to the community.

These children, not the ones to take the lockdown as a limiting factor, continued their online education support, personality, and skill training with the same gusto as before. These children have come out as true agents of change and have marked their presence in various initiatives being taken by PCF. Poster campaigns to drive awareness about Covid appropriate behavior under Quarantine Diaries, techniques of destressing oneself, and inducing the willingness to fight the pandemic by the initiative #FightStressWithMBCN has had a great impact on PCF volunteers who are working on the ground to deliver benefits for Covid relief to the masses.

A one of its kind school in India, given its scale and facility, MBCN has introduced a special home-based education plan with the help of special educators and therapists. The special educators and therapists at MBCN, focus on domestic activities, creative and recreational activities, Physical fitness, Social engagement initiatives, and home learning material to make virtual learning more memorable under its #VirtualLearningProgramme.

Taking the same vision forward, MBCN has been fully committed and dedicated to the rehabilitation of children with intellectual impairment, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder, hearing impairment, and multiple disabilities. One of the most striking features of this special school has been its holistic learning model that not just focuses on academic excellence but also on values of self & social responsibility, compassion towards one another, wisdom, humanity, and strength to take yourself and others higher together that goes beyond sympathy.

Keeping these ideas central to their model of learning, MBCN has emerged as an enabler of social change and empathetic education.
