India At 70: 'Hail To The Motherland'

The national song 'Vande Mataram' was written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1876. 'Vande Mataram' means 'Hail to the Motherland'. It became the slogan of India's freedom movement. The British banned 'Vande Mataram' in public forums and imprisoned many for disobeying.
