New Delhi: India is likely to enter the Missile Technology Control Regime or the MTCR this week -- a move that will help her export hi-tech missiles to other countries and buy predator drones from America.

Reports say an announcement may happen during Prime Minister Modi's visit to the US this week, which will be significant

The drones have been used effectively by the US to kill Taliban leaders in Afghanistan.

India had applied for membership to the MTCR last year but has faced strong opposition from some countries.

The Barack Obama administration has strongly backed India's membership to MTCR and three other export control regime -- the Australia Group, Nuclear Suppliers Group and the Wassenaar Arrangement.

Established in 1987, the voluntary MTCR aims to limit the spread of ballistic missiles.

India is also aggressively pushing to become as member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group, which is considering new applications at a meeting next week.
