Stills: Controversial film Dam 999

The Tamil Nadu government has banned Hollywood film Dam999 depicting the dangers posed by the collapse of an old dam. Earlier, theatres in the state decided not to show the film by Kerala-based director Sohan Roy, which many in the state claim is based on the controversy surrounding the Mullaperiyar Dam.

The film's director, Sohan Roy, says the film is not about the controversial dam and has urged people to watch the film first and then come to a decision.

Here's a sneak peek at this controversial film set to hit screens on November 25.

Dam 999 is described as a collage of 9 concepts on the official website of the film.

It focuses on nine lives entwined by an impending disaster due to a dam.

The film, an emotional thriller, also talks about the concepts of Ayurveda as well as lost love against the backdrop of the story of the dam.

The movie deals with a social cause -- the hazards posed by dams, and creates awareness among the masses about the dangers that can be caused by a dam collapse, if not attended on time.

Its screenplay has already found a place in the library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The film also features Rajit Kapur, Joshua Fredric Smith, Linda Arsenio, Gary Richardson, Jaala Pickering, Ashish Vidyarthi, Vinay Rai, Vimala Raman, Megha Burman and Jineet Rath.

The movie will be released in three regional languages - Hindi, Tamil and Telugu along with English.
