Thrissur:

A man died while riding a bike after several iron rods fell from a moving pickup van and pierced his body in Kerala's Thrissur district on Saturday.

The man has been identified as Sherin John. The accident occurred at around 10:30 am near HiLITE Mall in Thrissur's Kuttanellur area.

A video that has surfaced shows an autorickshaw making a sudden U-turn in the middle of the road. This prompted Sherin, who was riding behind the auto, and a pickup van carrying iron rods behind him, to stop abruptly.

Due to the sudden stop, the iron rods, which appeared to be loosely tied to the truck, slid forward and pierced Sherin's body. Locals can be seen rushing to the spot to remove the rods and rescue him.

Sherin was immediately rushed to a hospital but died from his injuries. Police have taken the pickup van into custody and stated that Sherin's body will be shifted to the District Hospital mortuary.
