Kerala reported 265 fresh Covid-19 infections and one death in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The Telangana government has issued an alert to all hospitals in the state regarding the new JN.1 sub-variant of coronavirus and has also issued an advisory in this regard.

The mortality rate among those infected with the Nipah virus is much higher compared to those infected with Covid, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) chief Dr Rajiv Bahl said on Friday.

Kerala Health Minister George said, "The positive cases are increasing in the state and hence an alert has been issued. It has been found that Omicron is spreading in the state and the samples have been sent for genomic sequencing."

The death toll has increased to5,30,831 with seven deaths. While two deaths each were reported by Maharashtra and Gujarat in a span of 24 hours, three were reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

India added 179 new coronavirus infections, taking the total number of cases to 4.46 crore (4,46,80,936). With one death reconciled by Kerala, the number of virus-related deaths in the country has now reached 5,30,726.

India recorded 406 new COVID-19 infections taking the total tally of Covid-19 cases to 4,46,69,421. The death count climbed to 5,30,586 with 12 fatalities which include 11 deaths reconciled by Kerala on Monday.

The COVID-19 death count climbed by 12, including six deaths reconciled by Kerala. The six new fatalities reported include four from Maharashtra and one each from Kerala and West Bengal.

The overall death count has climbed to 5,28,814 with 15 fatalities, which includes 12 deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

India reported 15,815 new Covid cases and 68 fatalities, including 24 reconciled by Kerala, according to the Union Health Ministry latest data.
