India has reported a rise of 12% in cybercrimes since the onset of the pandemic.

Complaints of online harassment, received by the National Commission for Women, increased from 300 per day to 1,500 per day after the pandemic

India is the third on this list of international victim countries. Excluding the US, the list is topped by the UK, followed by Canada.

Cases filed by women victims for publishing sexually explicit content online increased by 110%. UP (2,120) saw the highest number of cases of sexually explicit content online, followed by Assam (1,132) in 2021, states National Crime Records Bureau

In the last 2 years, the reported cybercrime cases committed against children increased by 400%. The top 5 states are UP (170), Karnataka (144), Maharashtra (137), Kerala (107) and Odisha (71). In 2020, 738 child pornography cases were registered in India, 103 in 2019 and 44 in 2018, as per National Crime Records Bureau.

In 2021, the National Cyber Crime Portal received more than 600,000 complaints, including for alleged crimes against women
