A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the "NDTV World Summit 2024 - The India Century", day 2 of NDTV's flagship event witnessed discussions around global issues including conflict, diplomacy, climate change, art and finance. From India's G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant to British High Commissioner to India Lindy Cameron, and Former Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations TS Tirumurti, day 2 saw a host of dignitaries attend NDTV World Summit 2024 and keep their views.
In his keynote address on Monday, PM Modi spoke about why the 21st Century is 'The India Century' and how the country is growing rapidly and how investors from around the world are excited about India being the fastest-growing major economy.
He also launched NDTV World, a new home for global news at the Summit, with the tagline: "The World From Where India Stands". NDTV World aims to be a leading voice from Asia and India on the global stage.

I was the only girl there. I looked at him, he stood across me and I was like, When I grow up, I want to be like him. That was my moment where I felt this is so cool."

Why Entrepreneur & Investor Kunal Bahl Coined The Term "Indicorn"
"We have been celebrating unicorn for many years. But if you just trace back to understand, why does this term exist? This term was actually invented by a venture capitalist in the US in the context of the US, where companies over $1 billion are called a unicorn, which is actually a mythical figure," said Entrepreneur and Investor Kunal Bahl when asked why he coined the term "Indicorn".

"As I was reflecting on it over the years, having built a unicorn, having funded many companies which became unicorns, I just realised that why are we celebrating these when actually what our country needs right now is lasting enduring businesses where start-ups are built off the back of real revenues and real profits?," he added, while speaking at the NDTV World Summit 2024.
Mr Bahl called to focus on building businesses with the intention of making them lasting and enduring and aim for goals which enable us to get there. "What India probably needs right now is not 100 or 200 or 300 unicorns or 500 unicorns. We need 10,000 Indicorns because that will form the bedrock of the start-up ecosystem and that will create the steady flow of companies that eventually become listed companies and large businesses."

Women Entrepreneurs Are Very Rare: Padmaja Ruparel, Co-founder, IAN Group
"India's entrepreneurship has grown but there is a very abysmal growth of women entrepreneurs. And even more abysmal is the fact that funding is rare. In 2022, 14.7% of the funding went to women. In 2023, it dropped to 9.7%," said Padmaja Ruparel, Co-founder, IAN Group at the NDTV World Summit.

Further talking about the need for urgent government action, Harjeet Singh, Global Engagement Director, Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative said, "Series of disasters affecting both developed and developing countries are serving as a wake up call. As rich countries will get more and more affected by climate change which they did not imagine till a couple of years ago, most vulnerable countries are going to be struggling with impacts who also have very less capacity to deal with it. They did not invest domestically enough in preparing for resilience. They will start looking more inwards.

How BillionE Is Reducing Its Petroleum Consumption
BillionE is focused on reducing the consumption of petroleum products in transportation, said Co-Founder Mustafa Wajid at the NDTV World Summit. Talking about environment and energy security issues, Mr Wajid said, "Fossil fuels used for generating electricity and transportation are two big elephants in the room. India consumes close to 150 million metric tonnes of petrol and diesel for transportation. At Billion Electric we are trying to address this. We have started deploying electric trucks."

"Decarbonising the transport sector at one level is our corporate objective. The name Billion means we would like to d a billion kilometers of decarbonised transportation," he added.
India's transportation requirements have multiplied by three times in the last 3 years and now stands at 3 tonnes kilometers. It is growing faster than the GDP, he said. Giving out the reason behind this, Mr Wajid said, "It is because of increased urbanisation, consumerism, and e-commerce sector. At BillionE we would like to see how to make this transportation more sustainable."

Senior VP, Integrated Operations and Sustainability & Responsibility, Pernod Ricard India shared company's sustainability goals and said, "We have a very comprehensive ESG programme under the umbrella name 'good times from a good place'. It is super aligned to ESG principals and UN SDGs with its core elements of nurturing terrain, land from where we draw all our resources. Everything that we do, we have to ensure we restore that balance of the earth. Secondly, circular making. While we produce products to delight customers , we do it in sustainable manner. Third element is about valuing people."
