Watch: How Punjab Police Made This Baby Girl’s First Birthday Special Amid Coronavirus Lockdown

New Delhi: Due to coronavirus scare across the globe, the whole world has come to a standstill, with many countries under strict lockdown. In this reality of the pandemic, birthdays or any other celebrations have taken a back seat as everyone is at home to practice social distancing. But for Maira in Mansa district of Punjab, her first birthday became one-of-a-kind experience, courtesy Punjab Police. 

Amid the lockdown, five cops of Punjab Police wearing masks and gloves came to Maira's house with a surprise cake and greeted the 1-year-old with a special ‘happy birthday' song. The Punjab Police shared a video of this special moment on their official Twitter and said, “Mansa Police's sweet gesture for Maira's 1st birthday. Policemen gave her a surprise by delivering a Birthday Cake at her doorstep.”

Mayra's parents appreciated the initiative and were overwhelmed with joy as Punjab Police helped make their child's first birthday special. The district police have also decided to continue the gesture for every child whose first birthday will fall during the lockdown period. 

Since the time the video has been shared on social media, many users have lauded the state's efforts. One user said, Just when every one of us is worried about birthday's during quarantine, what Punjab police did grab my heart.

Another user said, “A great gesture, you people are great role models.”

In Punjab, according to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as of April 20, 219 cases of coronavirus have been reported, of which, 16 people have lost their lives. Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has also ruled out any relaxation in the lockdown that is till May 3.
