The air quality in Delhi-NCR has worsened. It has been marked under the "Very Poor " category as the air quality index (AQI) has climbed above 300 in several locations. The Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai has declared 13 hotspots in Delhi. Other than Delhi, Mumbai is also witnessing poor air quality these days.
High levels of pollutants in the air trigger various respiratory illnesses including asthma, chronic obstructive respiratory disease, bronchitis and more. Several studies have also highlighted the link between poor air quality and higher risk of several health conditions. It can also worsen pre-existing health conditions. Therefore, it is crucial to follow all precautionary measures at an individual level. To help you stay safe this season, here are some of the tips you can follow to fight high pollution levels.
When air pollution levels are high, try staying indoors. You should also opt for indoor workouts. Exercising regularly is good for your overall health. However, exercising outdoors when the AQI is higher than normal can do more harm than good.
There are a variety of exercises that you can do at home to stay fit.
High pollution levels can worsen the air quality indoors as well. Therefore, it becomes crucial to keep indoor pollution-free. You should keep your doors and windows shut. Try installing air-purifying plants. Also, invest in an air purifier. It can help enhance indoor air quality and reduce the health hazards brought on by household pollution.
AQI stands for Air Quality Index which measures the level of pollutants in the air. It is important to stay updated. It will help you take precautionary measures before it's too late. Newspaper, your mobile phone, radio and television can help you keep a track.
Face masks can help reduce your exposure to pollutants. They don't provide complete protection, however, are quite effective.
When outdoors, wear a mask to filter out bigger particles.
Several foods can naturally boost lung health and immunity. These can protect you from the adverse effects of high pollution levels. Add enough fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes and healthy fats to your diet. Also, drinking green tea and turmeric milk might help.
Follow these tips and keep your respiratory health in good shape.
Stay indoors, stay safe and enjoy the festivities.
