"Unusual": Poll Body On Why It Rejected Congress' Meeting Proposal

The Commission said the Delhi Police later informed it that a delegation of MPs led by Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi wished to meet the poll panel and submit a memorandum.

Polling is being held in Nandigram and Rejinagar in West Bengal, Madurantakam and Dharapuram in Tamil Nadu. Puducherry's Thattanchavady and Assam's the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency are also due for polls.

Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said he decided to submit his resignation to Rahul Gandhi because he was the person who had appointed him as Punjab Congress chief, adding he was not holding the post because of anyone's favour.

SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal has repeatedly targeted Amritpal Singh and Waris Punjab De at political rallies, making the group a prominent target of his campaign.

The Poll Body has decided to freeze the 'All India Trinamool Congress' name and its 'flowers and grass' symbol for the October 6 by-polls, scheduled in Assam among other states.

Factors include age, new allies, and elections in key states such as UP and Punjab. Sources told NDTV a rejig is being worked on with the 2029 Lok Sabha contest, too, in mind.
