Donald Trump is set to return to the White House after his emphatic victory over Kamala Harris in the November 5 US presidential elections. The 78-year-old leader sealed his sweep of all seven swing states, including Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, all of which voted Democratic in the last election. He also won the swing states of North Carolina and Nevada.

He has now begun the process of choosing a cabinet and selecting other high-ranking administration officials following his presidential election victory.

On Trump Talks Question, Iran Says It Will Pursue 'Its Interest'

Iran will pursue whatever secures its interest, government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said on Tuesday, when asked if there could be direct talks with the incoming Trump administration.

"Whatever secures the country's interest and values of the revolution will be pursued by the government," he told a journalist, according to the Iranian Student News Agency.

There have been no reports that Donald Trump or his team are planning any such talks as he prepares to return to the US presidency.

US Climate Envoy Says Work Will Continue Despite Trump's Return

US climate envoy John Podesta on Monday urged governments to keep faith in the country's promise to combat global warming, saying Donald Trump can "slow", not stop, the transition from fossil fuels when he returns to office in January.

Trump has promised to again remove the United States, the world's biggest historic greenhouse gas emitter, from international climate cooperation and maximise the country's already record-high fossil fuel production.

"For those of us dedicated to climate action, last week's outcome in the United States is obviously bitterly disappointing," Podesta said at the annual UN climate summit that began on Monday in Baku, Azerbaijan.

"But what I want to tell you today is that while the United States federal government, under Donald Trump, may put climate action on the back burner, the work to contain climate change is going to continue in the United States," he added.

Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer has met Donald Trump at latter's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, Axios reported citing two Israeli officials and two US officials.

During the Sunday meeting, Dermer, a close aide of Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, passed messages from Netanyahu to Trump. 

He also briefed Trump on Israel's plans for Gaza, Lebanon and Iran for the next two months before Trump takes office, according to the report.
