The Indian Government has come up with an incentive scheme known as FAME or Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid and) Electric Vehicles. This particular incentive scheme is meant for electric vehicles. The important features of FAME are as follows:
Beginning on 1 April 2015, the first phase of the FAME I scheme received initial approval for a period of 2 years.
There has been an extension of the EV subsidy scheme at different points in time. The last extension was up to 31 March 2019.
The determination of the premium amount of each vehicle category takes place on the basis of battery and technological requirements. The categories could be like purely electric, partially electrical, hybrid, etc.
Launched on 1 April 2019, FAME II refers to the second phase of the FAME scheme. The important features of FAME II are as follows:
It aims to provide support for 10 lac EV two-wheelers, 55,000 EV cars, 5 lac EV three-wheelers, and 7,000 EV buses.
Extension till March 2024.
Rise in subsidy for EV two-wheelers while it remains same for EV four-wheelers.

A study led by the University of York has found that sectors like shipping, aviation, and construction face much weaker legal controls on nitrogen oxide emissions compared to home heating or cars.

In a big shift for Delhi's air quality this monsoon, five of Delhi's 13 pollution hotspots recorded 'Good' Air Quality Index (AQI) readings on Thursday - a first for the month of July.
Air pollution may not only affect your heart and lungs but can also raise the possibility of developing meningioma -- a typically noncancerous brain tumour -- according to a study.

Friday December 20, 2024While some may argue that people in Delhi are now more aware of air pollution than they were a decade back, my rebuttal would be that awareness does not mean that people are concerned.

Tuesday December 10, 2024Delhi welcomed us with monsoon rains and mangos. We were home. Fast forward a couple of years, in the winter of 2012, I found myself in denial about something other parents, mostly expats, were calling toxic air.

Friday November 22, 2024On a good day, such as today, the AQI reading in Delhi is 407. We are jubilant at the sickly sunshine trickling through the slightly dissipated smog. At least its not 1600.
